At the end of this month, Porfot will open its 8th exhibition, featuring artist Lucas Buendía.
A graduating student at the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam, Buendía will present his first-ever exhibition on Friday, March 27. His work revisits and reinterprets familiar symbols of the United States, questioning whether the imagery of the American Dream still carries its ideological weight, or begins to reveal the narratives behind it once removed from its pedestal.
Ahead of the opening, I spent some time with the artist in his studio. The visit resulted in a small photo report and a short Q&A, offering an early look at the work and the thoughts that shape it.
